The African Fertilizer and Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP) is seeking an experienced Soil Fertility and Plant Nutrition Expert, as a volunteer in Tanzania, to assist in training of trainers from various organizations including:

  • Fertilizer companies
  • Extension officers
  • Ministry of agriculture – Agro-Inputs section
  • Presidents Office (officers involved with Agriculture) and
  • Agro dealers

 

Assignment Title: Soil Fertility and Plant Nutrition Expert Volunteer: Tanzania
Host Organisation: The African Fertilizer and Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP)

Reports to: Senior Director Public Private Partnerships and Investments

The objective of the assignment is to update and strengthen skills of staff from the aforementioned organizations with skills and current technologies which can then be transferred to a wider community of smallholder farmers and farmers’ organizations in Tanzania.

The volunteer is expected to enhance the overall skills of trainees by providing technical assistance to improve their skills on soil fertility and plant nutrition.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To provide training on:

  • Management of acidic-affected soils
  • Management of alkaline-affected soils
  • Management of salt-affected soils
  • Basics and evaluation of soil fertility
  • Fertilizer application recommendation per crop and soil type
  • General knowledge on plant nutrition

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s or Doctorate Degree in Soil Science- Fertility and Plant Nutrition, Soil Chemistry or a related area
  • A minimum of 5 years of practical experience on soil fertility management
  • Possess knowledge of Tanzania agriculture/agro-ecological zones/soils
  • Experience on soil research and soil data analysis
  • Relevant experience on agro inputs sector in Tanzania
  • A general understanding of the Fertilizer Industry (products and practices) in Tanzania
  • Proficiency in English and Swahili
  • Experience on working with international organizations

  • Living Allowance (USD 100 per day)
  • Accommodation Allowance. The staff in Tanzania will arrange for accommodation
