Gene Phiri is a seasoned professional in agriculture development with over two decades of experience in various roles. Currently, Gene serves as the AFAP Country Manager for Zambia since August 2022, based in Lusaka, Zambia.
Gene has a strong background in management consulting and has held several significant positions throughout his career. He worked as a Regional Manager at Syngenta from August 2014 to September 2022 and as the Head of Sales at Agrovet Market Limited for 22 years, from August 2000 to September 2022.
Additionally, Gene served as the Manager of Sales and Marketing at Zambian Fertilizers Ltd from April 2010 to August 2014, as a Senior Agronomist at Agrivet Africa from May 2006 to December 2008, and as a Farm Manager at Kachele Extension Farm from April 2004 to April 2006.
Gene also has experience in greenhouse management, working as a Green House Supervisor at Tata Farms Foods Limited from November 1998 to January 2002 and as an Assistant Rose Manager at York Farm Limited in 2002. In these roles, he was responsible for the production of roses and vegetables under greenhouse conditions, including crop scouting, spray planning, supervision, irrigation, and fertigation.
