Raja Kaul

Board Member

Raja Kaul is a proven leader with global experience in business and international development. Raja is Founder and General Partner of Logos Ventures LLC, an angel fund that invests in early and growth stage companies led by African founders since December 2021.  Logos reflects Raja’s passion for African entrepreneurs who are committed to being change-agents and using commerce to drive economic inclusion and development in their communities.  The fund is intentional about investing in African women founders, capturing Raja’s belief in the importance to African development of growing the number of venture-capital backed African women founders.

In addition to his work at Logos Ventures, beginning in July 2019, Raja has served as President of the Sundial Group of Companies, the family office company that owns Essence Communications, Essence Studios, Afropunk and Beautycon.  From October 2013 to May 2019, he was Executive Vice President and Head of International, as well as Chief Operating Officer at Sundial Brands.

Raja’s commitment to African development is evident in his previous roles. He served as the Resident Country Director and Agency Head for Zambia (and Malawi) at the Millennium Challenge Corporation from August 2011 to October 2013. Prior to that, he held the position of Chief Technical Advisor at UNOPS from October 2008 to July 2011, and led a UNDP program that provided advice and support to African governments negotiating large-scale natural resource projects.   Raja also served as a Senior Advisor in the Office of the President for the Government of Liberia from August 2006 to August 2008.

His remarkable journey also includes a distinguished tenure as Executive Director of Legal Affairs at Siebel Systems, Inc (Oracle Corporation) where he worked from September 1998 to May 2006.

Raja Kaul holds a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Cornell Law School, with a specialization in business law and regulation. He also possesses a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) degree in Electrical Engineering from McGill University.

In recognition of his extensive experience and commitment to driving positive change in Africa, Raja Kaul was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the African Fertilizer and Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP) in December 2023. This appointment reflects his strong interest in supporting Africa’s agricultural sector and advancing the mission of AFAP.
