AFAP and BAYER Malawi Strengthen Smallholder Farmer Resilience Through Integrated Crop Protection

13 Feb 2025

The African Fertilizer and Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP), in collaboration with BAYER Malawi, is implementing the Enhancing Smallholder Farmer Crop Resilience and Productivity through Integrated Crop Protection project. This initiative aims to boost smallholder farmers’ awareness and adoption of certified Crop Protection Products (CPPs) alongside DEKALB seeds from BAYER, ultimately improving crop yield and quality.

Targeting 200,000 farmers across Malawi’s three regions, the project promotes the responsible and efficient use of CPPs to enhance productivity and resilience in smallholder farming systems.

A key pillar of AFAP’s approach is its Hub Agrodealer partnership model, which bridges the gap between input suppliers and farmers. Through the Community Agribusiness Advisory (CAA) model, AFAP ensures a sustainable and efficient input distribution system, facilitating last-mile delivery of high-quality seeds and CPPs to smallholder farmers.

This initiative underscores AFAP’s commitment to strengthening Malawi’s agricultural value chain by equipping farmers with the knowledge and inputs necessary to maximize productivity and sustainability.
