AFAP Leadership Convenes in Nairobi to Strategize Future Direction

05 May 2025

NAIROBI, KENYA – Key leadership from the African Fertilizer and Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP), including Board members and senior members of the AFAP Executive Committee, convened recently in Nairobi, Kenya. The high-level meeting focused on charting the future strategic direction for the organization.

Attended by interim CEO Joseph Mwangangi, Regional Directors, and Functional Program Directors alongside the Board, the discussions centered on positioning AFAP for continued impact within an increasingly complex non-profit environment. A significant focus was placed on evaluating and refining AFAP’s strategy to ensure its relevance and effectiveness moving forward.

Central to the deliberations was AFAP’s key initiative, the Trade Credit Guarantee. The leadership explored ways to maximize the organization’s ability to grow and enhance its impact within that sector.

These strategic conversations included exploring a potential directional shift in AFAP’s core ethos, further emphasizing a move “from aid to trade.” This reflects a potential evolution towards strengthening market-driven solutions and trade facilitation mechanisms to foster sustainable development in Africa’s agricultural sector.
