AFAP Uganda Demonstration Sites Promote Improved Agronomic Practices

11 Jun 2025

KAMPALA, UGANDA – As the 2025 planting season continues, AFAP Uganda has established 80 demonstration gardens across various farming regions. These sites provide practical training for smallholder farmers, focusing on key agronomic practices such as seedbed preparation, use of improved seed varieties, correct spacing, and integrated soil fertility management. Crops currently under cultivation include maize, vegetables, and tubers, with harvests expected by mid-year.

The demonstration gardens are supported through partnerships with agro-input suppliers, including Seedco, GrainPulse, YARA, Osho, Syngenta, and ADVANTA. These collaborations help ensure access to quality seeds, fertilizers, and crop protection products.

Each site offers farmers the opportunity to observe and apply tested farming techniques. The goal is to enable farmers to adopt effective practices on their own farms, contributing to better productivity, input use, and farm-level decision-making.

AFAP Uganda continues to work with local stakeholders to improve knowledge transfer, input access, and basic agronomic support, with the broader aim of strengthening farming systems and supporting rural economic activity.
