The African Fertilizer and Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP) Uganda team, led by Vice President of Financial Services Ladé Araba and Country Manager Joel Kakaire, recently engaged key stakeholders to enhance fertilizer accessibility and promote sustainable agricultural practices.

During a visit to Grainpulse Limited in Bugolobi, Kampala, discussions focused on the progress of the Trade Credit Guarantee Project – Fertilizer Financing for Sustainable Agriculture Management. The project has successfully approved 23 hub agro-dealers, facilitating $360,029 worth of fertilizer transactions and reaching 9,680 farmers in Season B of 2024. To further stimulate demand ahead of the March 2025 planting season, AFAP and its partners explored strategies such as soil testing services, demonstration plots, and farmer training programs.

The AFAP Uganda team also met with ETG at their offices in Namanve to pitch the project and identify synergies to expand fertilizer distribution. The discussion centered on selecting hub agro-dealers with retailer networks of at least five, as well as farmer cooperatives that support smallholder farmers through a credit guarantee mechanism. The partnership aims to improve last-mile delivery of fertilizers while driving adoption through free soil testing, demonstration gardens, and farmer field days.
