KAMPALA, UGANDA – As Uganda’s current planting season progresses, the African Fertilizer and Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP) has established 80 demonstration gardens across various regions, setting a strong foundation for the promotion of improved farming practices.

These demonstration plots feature key staple and cash crops vital to Uganda’s agricultural landscape, including maize, a variety of vegetables, and essential tuber crops. At the heart of the initiative is a strong emphasis on best agronomic practices. Farmers visiting the sites can witness firsthand the benefits of proper plant spacing, timely crop management, and other critical techniques that promote vigorous crop establishment right from the start. Every cultivation step has been carefully planned and executed, with the goal of achieving a successful and productive harvest anticipated around June/July 2025.

Beyond showcasing potential yields, the demonstration gardens serve as practical, hands-on learning centers for local farming communities. They offer farmers a tangible platform to observe and learn optimal agronomic techniques and the effective use of high-quality agricultural inputs. By demonstrating real results in the field, AFAP aims to inspire broader adoption of these improved practices across farmers’ own gardens.

This initiative underscores the power of collaboration. AFAP-Uganda proudly partners with leading agricultural input suppliers — including Grainpulse Limited, Yara, Osho Chemical Industries Ltd, Syngenta, and Seedco Group — whose quality products are showcased in the demonstration plots. Through these partnerships, farmers experience firsthand the transformative impact of using superior seeds, fertilizers, and crop protection products alongside proven farming practices.
