Empowering Farmers, Building Resilient Communities

21 Mar 2025

What does it take to build a stronger agricultural sector? According to the African Fertilizer and Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP), the answer lies in knowledge, partnerships, and market access—all of which were on display during recent Field Days in Manica and Tete Provinces.

At the Barue District Field Day, farmers didn’t just listen—they got their hands dirty. Through live demonstrations, they saw firsthand how adopting hybrid seeds and balanced fertilization can transform yields. With 98 attendees, including a strong presence of women and youth, the event was a step toward a more inclusive agricultural future.

Meanwhile, in Angonia District, the Field Day at Armazém Byieni showcased the power of community-based agro-dealers. With 80 farmers participating, the event highlighted how strategic partnerships—like those between AFAP and ETC Adubos—can drive local agricultural economies.

These events are part of a broader effort to support agro-dealers, create demand, and ensure farmers have access to high-quality inputs. With millions of dollars in fertilizer trade already facilitated, the future is bright for Mozambique’s smallholder farmers.

And this is just the beginning—AFAP is committed to expanding outreach, supporting input supply networks, and building market-driven solutions for long-term agricultural sustainability.

These activities were successfully executed by African Fertilizer and Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP) in Mozambique under the Fertilizer Financing for Sustainable Agriculture Management (FFSAM) project, an initiative of the African Fertilizer Financing Mechanism (AFFM) of the African Development Bank Group, and funded by NORAD.
