From Field to Market: Strengthening Agricultural Supply Chains
For smallholder farmers, access to quality inputs and reliable markets can be the difference between success and struggle. This is why the recent Field Days in Manica and Tete Provinces are so significant.
In Barue District, AFAP partnered with leading agricultural companies—Omnia, Seed Co, Phoenix Seeds, and Valley Seeds—to host a Field Day that brought together 98 participants, with nearly half being women and youth. The focus was on practical solutions to improve productivity, from proper fertilizer use to adopting hybrid seeds.
One month earlier in Angonia District, 80 farmers gathered at a demonstration plot managed by Armazém Byieni. With 70% of participants being women, the event highlighted AFAP’s commitment to inclusive agricultural growth.
The message from both events was clear: Strengthen market linkages and support agro-dealers to create a sustainable agricultural ecosystem. And the impact is already visible—between November 2024 and February 2025, over 8,100 metric tons of fertilizer were traded, valued at $5.16 million.
With 60 more Field Days planned and a focus on empowering women and youth, AFAP and its partners are driving a movement where farmers don’t just survive—they thrive.
These activities are being executed by African Fertilizer and Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP) in Mozambique under the Fertilizer Financing for Sustainable Agriculture Management (FFSAM) project, an initiative of the African Fertilizer Financing Mechanism (AFFM) of the African Development Bank Group, and funded by NORAD.
