HADC Field Visit Highlights RFC’s Role in Enhancing Food Security and Economic Empowerment in East Africa

14 Jul 2024

The Rwanda Fertilizer Company (RFC), in partnership with AFAP, organized an insightful field trip for over 60 delegates from the region. These delegates were attendees of the inaugural Hub Agro-dealers Development Conference (HADC) held from June 4 to June 6, 2024, in Kigali, Rwanda. The visit provided a pivotal educational opportunity as attendees explored RFC’s state-of-the-art blending plant in Bugesera, Rwanda.

RFC operates a modern facility that plays a crucial role in enhancing food security and economic empowerment across East Africa. This collaboration between OCP Africa and local partners received the esteemed “Made in Rwanda” label in 2023, presented by Rwanda’s Minister of Trade and Industry, highlighting its commitment to local production and agricultural development. The facility spans 8 hectares at the Bugesera industrial park, featuring a cutting-edge blending unit covering 4 hectares with a production capacity of 120 tons per hour and an annual output of 100,000 tons.

During the tour, delegates explored the facility’s modern laboratory equipped for soil analysis, a 25,000-ton storage unit, and a pilot farm for agronomic trials. These features are essential in providing customized fertilizer solutions, which significantly impact local farmers’ productivity. RFC’s efforts have a huge impact on local farmers’ productivity through these tailored solutions, enhancing both food security and economic empowerment in the region.
