Women and Youth Lead the Way at Angonia Field Day

21 Mar 2025

In the past weeks, smallholder farmers in the  Angonia District, Tete Province participated in a Field Day hosted by AFAP and ETC Adubos under the Fertilizer Financing for Sustainable Agriculture Management (FFSAM) project.

At the center of this event was Armazém Byieni, a demonstration plot owned by Mr. Simanguire Temoteo Chinsacassa, a hub agro-dealer who is helping transform farming practices in the region.

The numbers speak volumes—80 farmers attended, and an impressive 70% were women while 56 were youth. This isn’t just about growing crops—it’s about empowering the next generation and ensuring women’s voices are heard in agriculture.

Farmers learned through live demonstrations how hybrid seeds and balanced fertilization can significantly improve yields. The results were clear, and many left the event motivated to adopt these innovative practices.

Beyond training, AFAP and ETC Adubos are driving real economic change. With a $500,000 Trade Credit Guarantee, they’ve unlocked fertilizer trade worth over $5 million, ensuring smallholder farmers have the inputs they need.

AFAP and its partners are planning to roll out 84 demonstration plots and 60 more field days in the Tete Province.

These activities are being executed by African Fertilizer and Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP) in Mozambique under the Fertilizer Financing for Sustainable Agriculture Management (FFSAM) project, an initiative of the African Fertilizer Financing Mechanism (AFFM) of the African Development Bank Group, and funded by NORAD.
