AFAP's Participation at the AGRF Summit 2023: Defining Africa’s Fertilizer and Soil Health Vision

AFAP participated in the AGRF side event themed ‘Defining Africa’s Fertilizer and Soil Health Vision’ that was held on 4 September 2023, in Dar es Salaam.

The session was moderated by Michael Sudarkasa, CEO of AFAP and featured high level speakers including Jason Scarpone, Chief Sustainability Officer at IRM and AFAP Executive Board Member, and Joseph Mwangangi, AFAP Deputy CEO served as a platform for thought leaders and experts in soil health and fertilizer sectors to come together, sharing their valuable experiences and shedding light on effective practices tailored for African soil health. The event emphasized practical solutions and recommendations rooted in proven technologies for enhancing soil fertility management, addressing acid soil issues, and promoting sustainable landscape management.

The overarching objective of this session was to draw attention to critical areas within soil health and fertilizer management, backed by data and evidence-based insights. These areas include climate change mitigation, which is a pressing concern in today’s world. The discussions did not merely revolve around identifying challenges but also offered practical solutions and recommendations to support the implementation of the Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health Summit’s 10-year action plan.
