Detailed Mission Overview

The African Fertilizer and Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP) is a non-profit social enterprise that partners with public and private stakeholders to strengthen agricultural input value chains, with a primary focus on expanding inclusive and sustainable fertilizer markets across Africa. Founded in 2012 as an independent organization by leading African development bodies and rooted in the Comprehensive African Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP), AFAP delivers market-driven solutions through technical expertise, entrepreneurial innovation, and public-private partnerships.

We design and implement projects that drive policy reform, build capacity for hub-agrodealers and smallholder farmers, facilitate access to finance via mechanisms like the Agribusiness Partnership Contract (APC), promote affordable crop nutrition products, and generate market intelligence. Committed to social inclusion and gender equality, AFAP empowers African agribusiness SMEs to boost productivity, enhance food security, raise incomes, create jobs, and contribute to national GDPs.

OUR HISTORY

Established in 2012, the African Fertilizer and Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP) was created under the Comprehensive African Agriculture Development Program (CAADP) to accelerate agricultural growth across Africa. From the start, AFAP has focused on building strong connections between public and private sectors, improving fertilizer supply chains, and supporting agro-dealers. Through strategic partnerships and innovative programs, AFAP has worked to empower smallholder farmers, enhance productivity, and strengthen agribusiness ecosystems throughout the continent.

OUR MISSION

AFAP’s mission is to serve as Africa’s trusted technical partner in transforming agriculture. We aim to increase investment, productivity, and development across input and output markets by delivering practical, market-driven solutions. Through policy reform, financial instruments, and capacity-building initiatives, AFAP empowers agro-dealers and smallholder farmers to access essential resources and knowledge. Our work ensures sustainable growth and resilience in Africa’s agribusiness sector.

OUR VISION

AFAP envisions a thriving agricultural sector where smallholder farmers have the tools and opportunities to succeed. By strengthening agro-dealer networks, improving market linkages, and promoting access to quality inputs, we strive to boost productivity and food security across Africa. Our vision is to be a catalyst for inclusive growth, enabling communities to achieve economic stability and resilience while contributing to a sustainable future for the continent.
